Anton Bruckner »Te Deum«
Giuseppe Verdi »Quattro Pezzi Sacri«

4

The Concert Hall, Blagrave Street, Reading RG1 1QH, England
Saturday, 7:30pm

In the context of a concert tour to England the Johanneskantorei together with its partner choir the Reading Festival Chorus will perform these two magnificent works by Bruckner and Verdi in a concert to open the »Reading Summer Proms«.

Bruckner described his Te Deum as the pride of his life. »When God calls me to Him and asks 'What have you done with the talents I gave you?', then I will hand him the roll of sheet music on which my Te Deum is written, and He will be a merciful judge.«

Bruckner was unable to finish the final movement of his ninth symphony. Shortly before his death, he is supposed to have designated the Te Deum to be played in its place.
